OpenXW · Install & User Guide

Install and run games on your iPhone / iPad — all in Safari. No computer, no jailbreak, no Apple ID.

1. Before you start (what you need)

  1. An iPhone or iPad (iOS 18 or later).
  2. Internet access (Wi-Fi or cellular) — installing needs a connection; game files are often large, so check you have enough storage.
  3. The game package (.zip) already saved in the iPhone's Files app (the zip you downloaded from the cloud drive).
Put it in “Files → On My iPhone” or “Files → Downloads” — just remember where.

2. Install OpenXW (two steps)

Open: https://xw.getcdk.com

Step 1: Install the profile (required)

  1. Tap “Install profile” on the page.
  2. When the banner appears at the top, tap “Allow”.
  3. Open Settings; “Profile Downloaded” appears at the top → tap it → “Install” (top right) → enter your passcode → “Install” again.
※ This lets the installer install and open properly. Do it first; only needed once.

Step 2: Install OpenXW

  1. Back in Safari, scroll down to the cards (OpenXW.1, OpenXW.2… each is a backup channel).
  2. Pick any one, tap “Install now” → tap “Install” on the top banner. (OpenXW.10 recommended — tested working.)
  3. An “OpenXW.N” icon (blue, with a download badge) appears on the Home Screen; wait for it to finish.
※ If one won't install, or crashes when opened: long-press to delete that icon, go back and try another card until one works.

3. Trust the certificate (before first launch)

After the OpenXW icon is installed, don't open it yet — trust the certificate first:

Settings → General → VPN & Device Management → open the enterprise certificate → “Trust”.

You only trust a given certificate once; games installed later with it need no extra step. Restart the phone once after trusting.

4. Install a game with OpenXW

  1. Open the OpenXW app from the Home Screen.
  2. Tap “Choose a .zip”. If it says “Network required”, connect to Wi-Fi/cellular and tap again.
  3. In Files, find your game package (.zip) and tap it.
  4. When the system install prompt appears → tap “Install”. Progress is shown after you tap Install; tapping Cancel returns you to the picker — just redo it.
  5. When done a green check appears; tap “Launch [game]”, or just open the game from the Home Screen.

5. Import game resources and play

The first time you open the game, if it says there are no resources and asks you to import:

  1. In the game, tap “Import / Choose resources”.
  2. In Files, pick the same game package (.zip).
  3. Wait for the import to finish, then you can play.

6. FAQ

Q: “Install now” does nothing / the icon crashes when opened?

Reinstall using a different card (OpenXW.2, OpenXW.3…). Try a couple and one will work.

Q: The app says “Network required”?

Installing / signing needs a connection. Connect to Wi-Fi or cellular and retry. Playing itself needs no network.

Q: The icon's name or image is wrong / old?

Long-press to delete the old one and reinstall (iOS caches old icons and often won't refresh on reinstall).

Q: Stuck on the install progress / never finishes?

Usually the system install prompt was dismissed or cancelled. Quit the app, reopen, and pick the package again.

Q: A game that used to work suddenly won't open / crashes?

Two common causes: ① it was launched while a VPN was on (see the VPN item below); ② the certificate expired.
Go to https://xw.getcdk.com, reinstall the installer with a different OpenXW.N, and re-sign the game (re-import / reinstall it).

Q: After switching certificates (enterprise → personal, or to a different cert), the new install says “App is no longer available”?

iOS won't let a different certificate overwrite the same app in place. Long-press and delete the old icon first, then install the new one.
Deleting an app wipes its game resources, but you can re-import them from the offline .zip you kept (pick that zip again in Files — it re-extracts, it does NOT re-download), so don't delete that .zip.
This “delete first” is only needed the one time you change certificates; after that, always re-sign with the same certificate and iOS updates in place — resources are kept and no deletion is needed.

Q: Can I use a VPN / proxy?

Never use a VPN while launching or playing a game, or while launching or using the installer — it will crash.

If you need a VPN, close all these games and the installer first (make sure they're not running), then turn the VPN on.

If you accidentally launched something with a VPN on: go to xw.getcdk.com, reinstall the installer with a different OpenXW.N certificate, and re-sign the game (re-import / reinstall it).

Q: Can I install several games?

Yes. Repeat sections 4 and 5 for each game; they don't interfere.
